Marching forth into 2019, Ubisoft Montreal has unveiled its future For Honor content, teasing four new seasons that will each add a new playable fighter to the game’s growing roster.
Dubbed “Year of the Harbinger”, Year 3 is already well underway. Season 1, Vortiger, introduced a new hero for Knights faction and runs until April.
A recent Ubisoft announcement confirmed that an upcoming seasonal event will be held from March 14th to March 28th.
Year 3 Season 2 kicks off in May and will add another Samurai hero, ending in July.
This will be followed by Season 3 in August with a new Viking hero joining the ranks as we head into Season 4 at the start of November, carrying us into 2020 by introducing a fifth Wu Lin fighter.
All Year 3 content will be available for free to anyone that owns a copy of For Honor, including those who got the game free via Xbox’s Games With Gold or in February’s PlayStation Plus lineup.
Ubisoft is also offering a Year 3 Pass for £24.99, but what does this include?
First off, you’ll gain instant access to each of the new heroes as they become available - normally, you’d have to spend 15,000 in-game Steel for each of them.
Other Year 3 Pass perks include an elite outfit for each of the four upcoming heroes, an exclusive “effect” cosmetic item, 5 loot crates, and 30 days of Champion Status (offering a boost to salvage and experience earned).
Unsurprisingly, this is much like the Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 Pass, Ubisoft no doubt hoping For Honor will channel some of its success.
Season 1’s new Knight hero is known as the Black Prior, a heavy-class fighter who favours a traditional longsword and kite shield. The fun fact is, there are two variants to this hero, Vortiger and Erzebet, representing both male and female versions of the Black Prior.
Unlike For Honor’s original heroes, these are named characters with actual backstories, Ubisoft clearly wanting to flesh out For Honor’s previously vague lore.
While we know very little about the identity of For Honor’s upcoming unannounced heroes, Ubisoft’s key art for Year of the Harbinger clearly shows their weapons of choice. We also know that all four of them will be playable as both male and female.
The new Samurai hero is packing what appears to be an ornate two-handed axe that suggests that they may be a new hybrid style fighter.
Meanwhile, the Viking hero will come equipped with a mighty warhammer. Blunt weapons are fairly uncommon and since For Honor’s first year of DLC, fans have been pining for a hammer-wielding hero.
Finally, the unknown Wu Lin hero looks to be opting for some kind of sword though this will hopefully differ from the Tiandi’s Dao.
It looks longer and thinner, potentially giving it more reach than any other sword in the game.
Last year, the team at Ubisoft Montreal took a different approach to add new content.
In October, it released its premium Marching Fire expansion, dropping four new heroes at once as well as the new 4v4 siege-style game mode, Breach, and the PvE arcade.
Around the same time, Ubisoft announced that For Honor had reached 15 million players.
The game is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with a limited free-to-play version on Uplay.
